Moongazer

It may be hard to fathom, but the Créateur Olfactif has encountered the Moongazer not once, but twice. Yet, it’s the first encounter on a warm moonlit summer’s evening that matters most for this fragrance, because at the time, no one believed him.

And because no one believed him, this Strange Being belonged to him alone for years. It lived in his imagination, where it flourished.

It was startlingly tall, with four dark eyes gazing at the full summer moon. But it was its smell that fascinated the Créateur Olfactif. In fact, had it not been for its seductive scent, he – like everyone else – might have walked straight past it. The Moongazer would have remained invisible in plain sight, and this fragrance would never have been.

It was indeed a being so magical, so out of this world, that the second encounter, many years later, simply didn’t matter.

So if one day you don’t look too closely, you might be lucky enough to spot the Moongazer too…

For me, MOONGAZER expresses the heart of Créateur Olfactif: the world is already full of magic and strangeness—you just need to see it from the right perspective. I wanted to capture that sense of mystery. Three different vetiver fractions and oakmoss create an earthy, shadowy backdrop, while precious orris butter brings a quiet sophistication, subtly spiced with nutmeg. Ambergris lends it all an elusive, otherworldly presence. Then comes something rather unexpected: mushroom absolute, which gives the composition an almost savoury creaminess.
